Black Oxidation of steel

Black oxidation is a chemical surface transformation where steel is boiled in strongly alkaline baths to form a black coating. This coating provides moderate corrosion protection without affecting the mechanical properties of the steel, or the dimensions of the part. The method is used as a cost-effective surface treatment on tool, machine and weapon details. The surface resists severe deformation without flaking.
